The project aims to test more than 30 forage plant species under different growing conditions. It provides Swiss farmers with variety recommendations, provides variety information for the development of seed mixtures for forage production, and forms the basis for the inclusion of new varieties in the Swiss Variety Catalogue. In addition to yield, forage quality and competitiveness, resistance to harmful organisms is also included in the evaluation. Remote sensing methods are being introduced to assess tolerance to abiotic stress. Furthermore, analyses to evaluate secondary com-pounds in forage crops that contribute to reducing nitrogen and methane emissions are being included in the testing procedure.
