PestiRed: Agroecological co-innovation for reducing pesticides in arable crops
PestiRed is a Swiss agroecological co-innovation project aiming to reduce pesticide use in arable farming by 75%, while keeping crop losses under 10%. Over six years, 68 commercial farms compare conventional and agroecological practices to assess impacts on noxious organisms – weeds, pests and diseases – natural enemies of pests, soil health, and farm economics. The project combines scientific monitoring with farmer collaboration to identify effective strategies, evaluate feasibility, and support policy development. Findings contribute to decision-making tools and promote scalable, sustainable crop protection, helping transition Swiss agriculture toward resilient, environmentally friendly practices.
