GreeNet: Grassland conservation across European landscapes
Europe’s permanent grasslands, shaped by humans and nature, support rich biodiversity and vital ecosystem services but face threats like abandonment, intensification, and land conversion. Effective conservation requires holistic landscape planning, strong social networks, incentives, and good governance. The GreeNet project promotes sustainable grassland management by combining protected unmanaged areas with biodiversity-friendly farming. It works with stakeholders across six countries to develop tools for conservation planning, assess farmer cooperation, and align local actions with broader goals like the Sustainable Development Goals. GreeNet aims to ensure grasslands thrive for nature and people.
