Vector-borne vascular bacteria in perennial crops

VeBaPer aims to improve the understanding of complex pathosystems involving insect vectors, pathogenic bacteria and host plant species of relevance for Swiss crop production. VeBaPer will provide direct support for territorial surveillance and adapt protocols to benefit affected stakeholders, such as the Plant Protection Services. The knowledge gained will also support the development of targeted and sustainable control strategies that benefit both farmers and society at large. The experience gained by Agroscope over the past years dealing with detrimental and complex diseases such as grapevine’s Flavescence dorée and Bois noir highlights the uttermost importance of adopting a multidisciplinary approach and building strong competence networks. Accordingly, VeBaPer seeks to promote and strengthen collaboration both within our institution and with external partners, fostering the exchange of knowledge and resources to advance research on Flavescence dorée and Bois noir, while also tackling issues related to other phytoplasma diseases in fruit trees, the Xylella fastidiosa disease complex and, possibly, other pathosystems across the different crop production sectors.
