Cropping systems are faced with the challenge of providing agricultural products of high quality, reducing negative impacts on the environment and enhancing the delivery of various ecosystem services. The objective of LCAcropSys is to quantify the environmental impacts and ecosystem services of legume-based cropping systems, arable cropping systems, viticulture and fruit growing. It encompasses the contribution of the LCA research group to three third-party funded projects. In the EU project LegumES the LCA research group will assess the environmental impacts using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and ecosystem services of several legume-based cropping systems throughout Europe. In the project ViSo Ticino, the environmental impacts of different crop protection strategies in vineyards will be quantified. Finally, in the project NABEPA 2050 the LCA research group will determine the environmental impacts of different crop protection strategies and cropping systems in apple and potato by LCA.
