The ‘Climate Suitability Map for Agriculture in Switzerland’ was published in 1977 on the basis of meteorological observations covering the period 1901–1960. The map no longer reflects the changes in climatic conditions that have occurred since its publication.

To improve this important basis for decision-making, the FOAG has commissioned Agroscope to carry out a pilot project aimed at updating the ‘Climate Suitability Map for Agriculture in Switzerland’, drawing on advances made in the fields of meteorological observations, the processing and spatial interpolation of climate data, and the assessment of climate suitability.
