Alternative methods to chemical pesticides are more favourable for insect pest control due to their lower environmental impact, but they often need to be combined with one another to achieve the desired effectiveness. We investigate combinations of alternative pest control methods using the tomato leafminer Phthorimaea (Tuta) absoluta as a model. Based on a literature review and several case studies we find that methods can interfere with each other in different ways and that compatibility and efficacy can be modified by factors such as timing, intensity, and plant genotypes.
