ProSAg: Prospektive Ökobilanzierung zur Bewertung der Schweizer Land- und Ernährungswirtschaft

Swiss agriculture is currently facing multiple challenges like climate change, population growth, and aligning with sustainability goals. However, its long-term environmental impacts are hard to predict because standard environmental assessment methods do not capture future changes. Prospective life cycle assessment allows to model how new technologies, farming practices, and background systems such as energy supply will evolve and affect environmental impacts. The ProSAg project will provide the basis for prospective evaluations of the environmental sustainability of Swiss agri-food systems. ProSAg has three objectives:

  1. map future trends using global and national scenarios,
  2. define flexible models of agricultural practices and technologies that can adapt to different futures,
  3. test how these changes influence the environmental footprint of Swiss food production. Results will show which future developments matter most for reducing environmental impacts and improving resilience. ProSAg will give policymakers and stakeholders concrete insights to guide Switzerland’s agricultural transition towards climate and sustainability goals.
