AviPig-Feed: Nachhaltige Futteralternativen zur Aufwertung nicht konventioneller Inhaltsstoffe
The AviPig-Feed project aims to improve the sustainability of pig production by integrating Alternative Feed Ingredients (AFI) from agro-industrial byproducts, former food products, microalgae, and grass. It evaluates their nutritional value, functional properties, safety, and environmental impact, as well as effects on animal performance, metabolism, and welfare. A key focus is assessing risks linked to AFI, such as microplastic, heavy metal, and organic pollutant contamination. The project applies in-vitro and ex-vivo methods to study bioactive compound metabolism and their influence on intestinal health, immune function, and gut microbiota. Feeding trials will assess AFI effects on growth, meat quality, and sow-piglet interactions. To support AFI adoption, environmental and economic aspects will be evaluated through Life Cycle Analysis (LCA), Life Cycle Costing (LCC), and consumer acceptance studies. AviPig-Feed ultimately promotes circular economy principles, reduces food-feed competition, and fosters more resilient, sustainable livestock systems.
