Drosophila suzukii has become a pest of economic importance ever since it has spread around the world through the soft fruit trade. In vineyards, it is thought that the risk of infestation is correlated with the strength of the berry’s skin. It has been discussed if there might be vineyard practices such as early defoliation as well as the application of copper or kaolin that might increase skin strength in order to combat D. suzukii. An early defoliation treatment, three copper sprays, and a single kaolin application were all tested to see their effects on skin strength. None of these treatments showed any consistent significant impact on enhancing the strength of the berry skin.
