ViBaCrop aims to better understand viral and bacterial diseases of annual crops with particularly complex pathosystems involving insect vectors, pathogens, and alternative host plant species, with a focus on sugar beet and potato crops. With the knowledge gained in this project, targeted and sustainable control strategies will be developed to benefit farmers and producers. The experiences gathered by Agroscope in recent years in dealing with detrimental and complex diseases such as Syndrome Basses Richesses (SBR) and sugar beet yellows highlights the importance of adopting a multidisciplinary approach and the development of strong competence networks. We therefore aim to encourage and strengthen collaboration within our institution and with external partners by sharing knowledge and resources. This approach will ensure more effective disease management strategies and consequently improve the resilience of Swiss legume, sugar beet and potato production.
