PROMAPS – Proactive management of agricultural pests in Switzerland
The project integrates knowledge of arthropod pests and their natural enemies to enhance preparedness for future threats to Swiss agriculture and advance the regulation and risk assessment for invasive species and biological control. Focused on alien pests (newly introduced or imminent) and emerging pests (rising due to resistance, farming changes, or climate change), we develop and apply tools like automated horizon scanning and species distribution models to assess entry, establishment, and spread risks. We proactively evaluate potential biological control agents through literature, modelling, and bioassays for biological safety and compatibility with current management. The project thus supports safe, sustainable pest management that benefits farmers and informs science-based policy.
