INSPIRE: Innovative and precise integrated weed management for resilient ecosystems

INSPIRE aims to transform agroecological weed management through AI-driven robotics, digital decision-support, and farmer co-creation. Integrating precision agriculture, AI, robotics, agronomy, and computer vision, it combines sensor-based crop/weed monitoring, real-time detection, and site-specific management to foster adoption. An AI-mechanical-weeder will be developed with enhanced weed detection models, adapted weed-risk management DSS-tool, assessing crop competitiveness, adoption feasibility, and socio-economic impacts. IoT integration ensures interoperability, open access, and FAIR/GDPR compliance. Target outcomes include user- and eco-friendly, cost-effective tools delivering real-time, data-driven weed management, with efficacy >95% interrow, ≥90% intrarow, and up to 100% herbicide reduction. Farmer feedback will guide adoption, supporting EU Green Deal goals, biodiversity, and sustainable agroecological transitions while creating synergies with industry, advisors, and SMEs.
