Le phosphore (P) est un nutriment crucial pour assurer
une productivité optimale des cultures. Toutefois, les
réserves de minéraux nécessaires à la production d’engrais
phosphaté diminuent et il est désormais urgent
de développer des solutions alternatives. Le recyclage
de résidus contenant du P en fait partie et cette étude
teste la possibilité de revaloriser le phosphite de
calcium (Phi-Ca), un sous-produit industriel dont la
quantité de P représente 5–10 % de l’importation pour
les fertilisants suisses. Un essai en serre a été réalisé
pour mettre à profit une culture d’engrais vert (EV)
afin d’oxyder le phosphite pour fournir du phosphate
à une culture subséquente de maïs. Les objectifs de
cette étude étaient de tester les effets du Phi-Ca sur
(i) la production et la concentration en phosphite (Phi)
dans la biomasse de l’EV et du maïs, (ii) des indicateurs
de fertilité biologique du sol et (iii) la teneur en P
du sol disponible pour les cultures. Dans un sol argileux
et un sol sableux, 38 kg P ha–1 ont été ajoutés avant le
semi d’EV avec du Phi-Ca ou du super triple phosphate
(STP) qui est un engrais de référence. Un contrôle sans
apport de P a également été mis en place. La biomasse
aérienne d’EV a été récoltée pour chaque pot après 8
semaines puis mélangée à la terre que contenait le pot.
Après avoir rempoté le mélange terre/biomasse, du
maïs a été semé et la biomasse aérienne a été récoltée
après 8 semaines. Les biomasses aériennes d’EV
et de maïs ont été pesées et la concentration en Phi a
été mesurée. À la fin des cultures d’EV et de maïs, du
sol a été collecté afin d’analyser le carbone microbien
(Cmic), le carbone organique (COrg) ainsi que le P disponible
(P-NaHCO3) pour les cultures. Les productions de
biomasse aérienne d’EV et de maïs n’ont généralement
pas été affectées ni négativement par la phytotoxicité
du Phi ni positivement par le Phi-Ca ou le STP, car le P
des sols n’était pas limitant. Des concentrations de Phi
dans l’EV, variables selon les espèces et le type de sol,
ont été détectées tandis qu’aucune trace de Phi n’a été
observée dans la biomasse aérienne du maïs. Les effets
du Phi-Ca et du STP sur le Cmic et la minéralisation du
COrg ont été comparables et spécifiques au deux types
de sol contrastés. À la fin des cultures d’EV et de maïs,
le Phi-Ca a augmenté le P-NaHCO3 autant que le STP
dans le sol sableux et davantage dans le sol argileux.
Ce résultat est probablement dû à un relargage du P
plus lent avec le Phi-Ca. Cette étude montre que, dans
des conditions de sol contrastées, le Phi-Ca n’a pas eu
d’impact négatif sur la fertilité biologique, qu’il n’a pas
affecté l’influence de l’EV sur la culture de maïs et que
le Phi a été oxydé durant la culture d’EV par des flores
microbiennes contrastées.
