La présente étude montre que le butinage automnal d’une culture intermédiaire fleurie n’influence pas la capacité d’une ruche à passer l’hiver. Nous n’observons pas un effet clair et systématique du butinage de cultures intermédiaires sur le développement des colonies d’abeilles et selon les années et les régions, la tendance peut être contradictoire. Par conséquent dans notre essai, les cultures intermédiaires n’ont pas présenté d’effet ni positif ni négatif sur le développement hivernal.
Nous pouvons confirmer que les néonicotinoïdes provenant de cultures antécédentes ou adjacentes peuvent se retrouver dans le sol et être assimilés par les plantes utilisées en engrais vert. Il faut cependant relever que les autorisations d’utiliser les néonicotinoïdes pour le traitement des semences ont été retirées en Suisse et dans l’Union Européenne à fin 2018. Le scénario que nous avons testé dans notre essai ne reflète donc plus entièrement la situation actuelle.
En se basant sur les résultats obtenus durant les trois ans d’essais, il est injustifié d’incriminer la présence de cultures intermédiaires dans le phénomène des pertes hivernales de colonies et de conseiller un fauchage des plantes en fleurs pour éviter le butinage. D’autre part, la présence de cultures intermédiaires à la fin de l’automne ne se révèle bénéfique pour les colonies que dans de rares cas et à un faible niveau. Notre étude ne nous a pas permis de définir dans quelles conditions d’environnement et de pratiques apicoles les cultures intermédiaires pouvaient se révéler bénéfiques.
Dix ruches d’essai ont été placées dans une culture intermédiaire (ici, de la phacélie) durant la période de floraison.
