To increase the sustainability of the current food system, a transformation is required which considers the diverse requirements and objectives of the food system. Several projects of the Agroscope work programme 2026-2029 address this transformation and some of them intend to use the SWISSfoodSys model (Swiss sustainable food system model) to analyze the impacts of specific scenarios on the sustainability of the food system.
These applications require a model that can realistically represent the food system and its impact on sustainability. The model should also be efficiently applicable and use updated databases. To meet these requirements, the model which has been built up in the last work programme must be consolidated, regularly updated, and expanded according to the intended applications.
This project ensures that the model is maintained based on current scientific methods, and it coordinates the further developments in terms of content and methodology. These tasks enable the use of SWISSfoodSys as a reliable tool for policy advice and decision support.
