SYSTAB: adattamento dei sistemi di produzione delle albicocche alle sfide climatiche, ecologiche e sociali
Apricot production is increasingly threatened by climate change, with spring frosts, irregular rainfall, heat waves, and prolonged droughts. These climatic extremes, combined with plant protection constraints, are challenging the stability of yields, fruit quality, sustainability, and resilience of traditional production systems. One of the most effective ways to optimize production and build resilience to climate hazards and new pest invasions is to deploy protective infrastructure. Unfortunately, the cost of this infrastructure, its environmental impact, and uncertainties regarding the maintenance of production can limit its widespread adoption. It is therefore necessary to implement integrated approaches to optimize systems that combine varieties better suited to the climate, improved orchard design, and decision support tools. In addition, the use of alternative plant protection strategies and forecasting models is necessary to reduce the use of synthetic products. The integration of physical, biological, and technological protections into orchard design can significantly reduce exposure to climatic and biotic stresses, enabling sustainable and profitable apricot production.
