This proposal promotes sustainable horse farming. Workpackage (WP) 1 develops a novel hay seed mixture that combines high feed quality, biodiversity gains, and climate resilience. The mixture will provide nutritionally balanced, species-rich grasslands that ensure continuous forage intake while preventing obesity and metabolic disorders. WP2 focuses on enhancing biodiversity on equine farms. Benefits include improved horse health, environmental enrichment, and economic advantages. An analysis of farm types will support recommendations and the creation of a practical biodiversity guide. WP3 expands an established tool for evaluating farm labour needs. While individual housing is covered, benchmarks for group housing are missing. This WP will generate standardised workload figures to improve investment decisions and management planning. WP4 introduces automated sensors to advance equine husbandry. By monitoring equine phenotype, farmers can adapt stabling systems based on objective indicators. The outcomes will improve horse health that meet legislative and owner expectations. This project delivers solutions to strengthen agriculture, animal health, biodiversity, and farm efficiency.
