I nudge come nuovi strumenti nella politica agricola

Nudges are increasingly proposed as an additional and cost-efficient instrument to the agricultural policy toolbox. In Switzerland and other European countries alike, nudges have not yet been implemented at large scales in the agricultural context, and to what extent nudges as new policy instruments can improve the efficiency and effectiveness of current agricultural policies remains unknown. The proposed project aims to evaluate the potential of nudges as new instruments in the Swiss agricultural policy toolbox, and lay foundations for designing effective nudges to shape farmer behavior. Work package 1 of the project will investigate Swiss farmers’ perceptions towards nudges, namely their acceptance and perceived effectiveness of various nudges. In work packages 2-5, the effectiveness of selected nudges will be assessed in several real policy contexts, including planting highstem fruit and nut trees, the adoption of agroecological practices, and administrative workload during peak submission periods. The findings of the project will add to the scientific evidence on the effectiveness of nudges and provide practical basis for designing nudges that align with policy objectives.
