AviPig-Nutri: Fütterungsstrategien für Schweine und Geflügel zur Verbesserung der Nährstoffeffizienz
AviPig-Nutri aims to develop advanced feeding strategies to enhance nutrient efficiency in swine and poultry. This initiative explores the interactions between feeding strategies, animal genomics (‘nutrigenomics’), and barn management practices, including housing conditions. The primary nutrients of focus are nitrogen (present in the form of amino acids and proteins) and phosphorus (including interactions with calcium). A key parameter in evaluating feed efficiency is body nutrient deposition and mobilisation. Body composition will be assessed mainly by non-invasive imaging technology which allows also repeated measurements on the same animal. Therefore, innovative approaches of time-dependent changes and resilience will be investigated. The project also aims to identify practical proxies for body composition assessment that can be applied on farm to evaluate potential deficiencies in protein and phosphorus supply. This project provides all the necessary data to model nutrient excretion necessary for planning crop fertilization, for assessing farm’s nutrient balances and for promoting reduced nutrient losses.
