Potential der sozialen Ökobilanzmethode für die Bewertung gesamter Wertschöpfungsketten

The social sustainability evaluation of farms, often linked to farmer’s health, is gaining importance. While farm-specific indicators help to assess social conditions, they miss broader value chain impacts. Social Life Cycle Assessment (S-LCA) addresses this by evaluating effects on various stakeholder groups across a product’s life cycle using quantitative and qualitative indicators. A project of the previous work programme led by Agroscope revealed gaps in S-LCA applied to agricultural products like poor documentation, lack of inventory data and limited focus on farmers, but also showed S-LCA's potential to identify social hotspots along the value chain. The PoSoLCA project aims to improve S-LCA by enhancing existing databases used to display value chains, better representing Swiss processes and farmers, and integrating it into tools to ease its application. Case studies on apples and tomatoes will test feasibility.
