MediAlp: Optimierung der Produktion von Medizinal- und Aromapflanzen: Qualität und nachhaltiger Anbau in den Schweizer Alpen

The MediAlp project supports the sustainable production of medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) in Switzerland by developing innovative, resource-efficient cultivation systems tailored to alpine conditions. It addresses the entire value chain—from cultivation to post-harvest—using a multidisciplinary approach combining agronomy, plant protection, and digital tools. The project focuses on key species such as Thymus vulgaris, Salvia officinalis, Melissa officinalis, and Arnica montana. It aims to optimize crop calendars and harvest timing based on metabolite dynamics, develop biological and physical strategies against pests and diseases like Septoria, Verticillium, and Longitarsus, and validate energy-efficient drying technologies to preserve essential oils and polyphenols. Additional activities include microalgae-based fertilization trials, smart irrigation using digital sensors, and mechanical weeding. On-farm trials and industry input ensure practical relevance. Results will be shared through the MAP Forum and targeted dissemination tools to strengthen the resilience and competitiveness of the Swiss MAP sector.
